Why did you want to enrol in an apprenticeship?
I have always wanted to be a carpenter but it is really difficult to find a job in construction without any on-site experience. By enrolling in the WCAA I am combining college and practical learning on site which will help me stand out when it comes to applying for full time jobs.
How has the WCAA helped you?
The WCAA has given me a £500 voucher to put towards my toolkit. Having my own set of tools has helped improve the quality of my work. If it wasn’t for this voucher, I would have had to pay for the toolkit out of my own pocket, which is a lot of money for a student.
Where do you want your career to progress?
Ideally, I would like to carry on working with Stuart at SB Carpentry. We work really well together and a lot of Stuart’s work is installing joists and constructing roofs which is what I enjoy most.

Why did you want to enrol in an apprenticeship with WCAA?
I am quite a practical person so I liked the idea of learning a trade. Bricklayers are in high demand at the moment so I knew that I would always find work with this particular skill.
The benefit of an apprenticeship is that I can learn on site as well as in the classroom.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The job is really varied and I like that I’m working outside and not stuck in an office all day. The only downside is having to travel to different sites but you get used to that.
What is your biggest achievement to date?
Laying my first brick. Having worked as a labourer for a while it was good to be able to do something different.
